A Schengen visa issued by an Embassy or Consulate of one of the Schengen countries allows the holder to travel freely in these countries. However, please note that a holder of a Schengen visa is still subject to immigration control and is not guaranteed entry into any of the Schengen countries; a visa is not itself a right to enter a country.
- "Singaporean passport holders do not require a visa to enter the Netherlands for a stay up to a maximum of 90 days in the Schengen countries. For a longer stay then 90 days they need to apply for a MVV (long term visa.)"
- Legal residents of Singapore travelling to Europe on business or as tourists and who are subject to visa regulations, may receive a visa for a short stay of 1 to 90 days valid for all the above-mentioned countries.
- Legal residents of Singapore may receive a joint visa at the
relevant foreign mission of the Schengen-country where his/her main destination lies.
- Applications have to be submitted well in advance as processing the application may take 3 to 45 days;
- Additional requirements for a visa application for a minor, travelling alone: parents/legal guardian's consent (with copy passport) and minor's birth certificate. For all other requirements, select the appropriate visa.
Mandatory Schengen travel insurance
The EU Council in Brussels has decided to implement as from 1 June 2004 a mandatory travel insurance as a precondition for visa issuing. In principle this means that a visa applicant has to submit, together with his visa application for a short stay in the Schengen member states, proof of a valid personal or collective travel insurance covering:
- Expenses for repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical care and/or
- Urgent medical treatment in a hospital
- The minimum value of the mandatory travel policy is determined at Euro 30.000,00
- Insurance premiums for these policies are charged by the insurance company and not by the diplomatic or consular representation
- Further information can be obtained from the EU/Schengen diplomatic or consular representation where the visa application is lodged.
